Supreme Court Upholds State Laws Prohibiting Female Transgender Students from Girl’s and Women’s Athletic Teams

On June 30, 2026, the United States Supreme Court issued its decision in West Virginia v. B.P.J., consolidated with Little v. Hecox, addressing whether states may restrict participation on female athletic teams based on biological sex. The Court held that such laws, prohibiting students who are biologically male but identify as female from playing on girls’ and women’s teams, do not violate Title IX or the Equal Protection Clause....
